Description

Mickey has had a rough life. He was the mascot of a company that he saved from the brink of bankrupcy and then because of the constraints fans put upon him to be a nice guy, fell by the wayside in theatrical shorts. Later he was dragged out of retirement to host a popular kids show, forever immortalizing him as a children's feature. He started doing classical work making two shorts which featured him as Dickens character Bob Cratchett and the Prince and the Pauper in that movie (whose name escapes me at the moment). Even though these films were great in the course of well acted animation with characters people knew and loved, but they were relegated to showing before other peoples movies (The Rescuers rerelease and Rescuers Down Under respectively) Then he was finally offered a new short that would test his acting chops and break his supposed set bounderies. Runaway Brain blew people away (and is still my favorite) but the company that made him who he was has hidden it away in their labrynthian vaults. He's still the mascot of this company, but they seem to try to tout others in front of Mickey, who was once the most recognized character among children. Now Pooh and Stitch could be considered the fan favorites and Disney doesn't seem to mind. Stitch has four movies out now and Pooh has five (and that's not counting the first three specials as full length). Mickey only just recently came out with another classic work The Three Musketeers and turned the story on it's round ear. He kept the drama though and had them caring for him and his friends, while hating the villain (in the good way). It's time Mickey returned to the big screen. I hear that Lasseter is testing the metal of Disney now by making two new (hand drawn) shorts, and mentioned that one will star one of the classics. He's a great character nontheless and Walt always gave the little guy his credit.
